This is a sunglow cornsnake. Found throughout the southeastern and central United States, the cornsnake is a North American species of rat snake that subdues its prey by constriction. As an adult, the cornsnake is moderate in size. They are docile, reluctant to bite, and make good pets. Their coloration varies in nature. The sunglow cornsnake is not found in nature, its striking color a result of selective breeding. Cornsnakes resemble the venomous copperhead, and are often killed because of this. But, they are harmless and beneficial to humans. Cornsnakes capture and consume small prey. They are especially fond of mice.
