1. Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system, so big you could fit over 1,300 Earths inside it. Yet, Jupiter doesn't have a solid surface and is made up of gas, giving it the name "gas giant.".
2. The planet’s most famous feature is its "Red Spot", a storm that's so big it is visible from Earth, and has been visible for hundreds of years.
3. Jupiter has the most moons in the solar system. Its 4 main moons were discovered by a famous astronomer, Galileo Galilei, in 1610, but there are now thought to be up to 64 moons orbiting Jupiter. Its biggest moon is Ganymede, the largest moon in the solar system, and bigger than the planet Mercury!
4. Jupiter is sometimes called a failed star because it is made of the same elements (hydrogen and helium) as is the Sun, but it is not large enough to have the internal pressure and temperature necessary to cause hydrogen to fuse to helium, the energy source that powers the sun and most other stars.
