A type of catamaran, the Hokulea, a full-scale replica of a Polynesian double-hulled voyaging canoe, was launched on March 8, 1975, and in 1976 sailed from Hawaii to Tahiti
using Polynesian navigation techniques. Catamarans are much faster than mono-hulled boats and much more stabel in the water.
