As America took to the road in the early Twentieth Century, gasoline stations were a necessity. This particular one is the art deco Tower Station & U-Drop In Cafe in Shamrock Texas on Historic Route 66. U.S. Route 66 was one of the original highways within the U.S. Highway System, also known as the Will Rogers Highway, or the Main Street of America. Established on November 11, 1926, the highway originally ran from Chicago, Illinois, through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona before ending at Santa Monica, California, covering a total of 2,448 miles (3,940 km).
